Louis XVI, also known as Duc De Berry, was the third of eight children born(p) to the Dauphin of France Louis-Ferdinand and Marie-Josephe of Saxony, in the lavish Palace of Versailles on August 23, 1754. He lived a difficult childhood because his parents often favored his sometime(a) brother, Louis Duc de Bourgogne, over him. Despite this emotional hardship, he enjoyed many activities such as wrestling with his younger brothers and hunting with his grandfather, Louis XV. Louis XVI not only enjoyed physical activities, but also enjoyed studying Latin. In his teenage years, both of his parents died of tuberculosis, making him the new Dauphin of France. As a result of their deaths, fifteen-year-old Louis married the beautiful fourteen-year-old Marie Antoinette, both his second full cousin once removed and the youngest daughter of the Holy Roman emperor butterfly and Empress.
