Ethos

Ethos is a Greek word meaning character. When reading a writers business on a plastered topic it is very important that their writing contains ethos. It is necessary for their argument to be based off of reliable sources and to have believability by providing research to bear said argument. Ethos can excessively be based on a writers, or in this case, a speakers likeability and trustworthiness. A speaker, and writer, who represents this is Chimamanda Adiche. In Danger of a Single Story, Adiche effectively uses ethos to support her argument by sharing personal stories in her life, by being h angiotensin converting enzymest with her audience, and exuding charisma by using surliness to truly get her audience to like her and to connect with what she is saying.
end-to-end her presentation, Adiche uses personal experiences to support her argument that when populate hear one spatial relation of the story they usually get the wrong impression, whether it is almost a group of people or a genuine idea. She goes on to say that she knew a boy when she was a minor and she was told by her mother that this boy and his family were very poor. She admits to feeling a lot of pity for them, until one day she sees that the boys brother had made a beautiful basket.



She then states, I did not know that anybody in his family could make anything so beautiful, I had always just though of them as poor and it had twist impossible for me to see them as anything but poor….If mortal had told me that this boys family was poor but also hardworking, I would have thought of them in a completely variant way. (Adiche) This is a great example of how hearing one side of a story can be dangerous.
Adiche is very honorable with her audience throughout her presentation. She admits that she, too, is just as guilty in the question of the single story.(Adiche) She tells a story about how she went to Mexico and watched the people there and was surprised that she had been so immersed in the medias perceptions of Mexicans.
