The Consequences of Choice
In the story A & P, John Updike uses Sammys immaturity to show the consequences of choices. Sammy a typical teenager shows an immature behavior equal most teens. From the moment the group of girls catch his eyes; he loses his oversight and could not remember even if he had rang up the Hiho wrong(p) in his hand. He finds himself go withing the path of the girls with his eyes as they go about their business looking for the product they make water come in to buy. Wearing a bathing equip in a market store is more like being naked in public. A mature unmarried would not be carried apart by such in decent come.
Sammys immaturity is demonstrated as because the reach of the three girls seems to Sammy as the most entertaining sight he had ever seen. He observes every movement of the girls, as they follow each other in their reaction along the aisles. As a result of his immature behavior Sammy is so carried away that he seems to observe that one of them is the leader of the group, who he tinct to as the queen. The name queens we know refer to a very beautiful, very powerful and very important somebody in a society. His immaturity makes him to quickly see a half-naked girl and began to name her Queenie.



He even concludes that she had not crack on her bare feet that much, describing her walk as, putting down her heels and because letting the weight move along to her toes as if she was testing the floor with every step(Updike 19). He thinks that they appear eccentric; not knowing the choice of such an indecent dress for a grocery store will lead deal having a second thought about their mental state.
Next, as Lengel said to the girls that, this isnt the beach, he said that, it struck him as funny (Updike 22). This statement to a half-naked person in a beach wear at a grocery store will not trigger laughter in a mature and responsible person.
