In the epic rime The Odyssey, told by Homer, the author tells of a Greek hero named Odysseus. The verse is about Odysseus ten year journey from Troy, arse to his plaza land of Ithaca. During the journey, Odysseus uses his cleverness to overcome many conflicts. Cleverness is matchless of six Greek values. These values are taught in nearly epics. The most important value that was taught in this epic was by far cleverness.
There are many instances in the sequence of the Cyclops where Odysseus is clever. One instance is when The Cyclops, Polyphemus, asks for Odysseus name. He replies, My name is Nohbody: mother, father, and friends, every maven beefs me Nohbody (961). after Odysseus blinds him, the Cyclops tells all of the other Cyclopes that nobody blind him. This shows cleverness because the Cyclopes could not search for Odysseus afterward. They thought in that location is no reason to search for someone when no one blinded him. This eventually causes Odysseus and his to escape Polyphemus cave and make it back to their ship alive. Overall, if Odysseus did not use his cleverness in this situation, he and his men might not have survived.
Another shell of when cleverness is taught in the epic is when Odysseus puts beeswax in his mans ears, so would not hear the call of the Sirens. Odysseus was told not to go to the Sirens when they call. The author writes I carried wax along the line and laid it thickly on their ears (977). This is very clever because he muted the call of the Sirens and settled his crews temptation to go to them. Odysseus knew the Sirens were swingeing news and did not want to take any chances. He also used his quick wits by instructing his crew to tie him to the mast and refuse to let him down.
