The literature, poetry and drama written by John Greenleaf Whittier was brilliant. He was born December 17, 1807 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He attended Haverhill academy from 1827 till 1828. He worked as a school teacher and shoemaker. After he had reached the age of twenty he print enough to stand at attention to editors and readers during the time of the anti-slavery act. He wrote calm settling poems. His first book Legends of New England was make in 1831.



From his first published book until the Civil state of war he also wrote poems and articles. His writings often had to do with abolition. He was very active in the anti-slavery act. Abolition is legal obstacle and the end of slavery. In 1833 he wrote Justice and Expedience prodding an immediate end to slavery. He later became an editor of the protactinium Freeman. The Pennsylvania Freeman was later burnt down do to the actions of a mob. After his editing job took a acidulate for the worst he became the founder of the anti-slavery act in 1840 and he ran for congress in 1842. He also helped find the Atlantic monthly, a magazine the talked of politics, culture and business.
