McCarthyism was a specific political activity in the United States during the late 1940s and 1950s. Senator McCarthy, who was anti communist, believed that communism had infiltrated American politics and other influential places. McCarthy felt that it was his duty to discover and take down all communists. The United States seem to senesce a belief that anyone who was against our enemies would be on our side and that was not the case.

The tendency of our times is to think and act as if the enemies of our enemies are our friends that there is nothing wrong with fascism so long as it is anticommunism, and we should work with it.
