Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson was born on December 10th, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusettes with a family that was tumesce known for educational and political activity. Their house known as The Homestead or Mansion was often used as a meeting place. Emilys mother was a cold, religious, and hardworking homemaker who suffered from depression. Emily attended Amherst Academy in 1834, and Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley in 1847, and was able to study a kitchen range of subjects from Latin to English Literature. However, her studies were often interrupted by menacing health. After a persistent cough developed, her father stubborn to remove her from college and bring her back home. Although she left without any evening gown qualifications, she had been able to broaden her education and vocabulary. In 1850, she started to compose poems, and produce her first poem in 1852.
