The mother, Rosemary Walls, stuck to her dreams to become other Picasso or Van Gogh. She stayed at home, painted, and did nothing else. The father, Rex Walls, was a real intelligent man who knew a lot of things that could have gave him a steady job and provided for his family, instead of drinking and smoking his aliveness away. These kids of Rose Mary and Rex Walls, Jeanette, Brian, Lori, and Maureen stood beside their parents until they were old enough to fend for themselves. Conflicts were endlessly popping up in this book. The main conflict that kept appearing in the novel is money. Money was always unawares during the early years of the Walls family. Due to this conflict every family member was affected because it lead to no food, late bill payment, led them to wear thrift clothes that they passed down to each other.
